Designin' Outside The Box / July 24, 2004 / 00:59
I've just read a post at Douglas Bowman's Stopdesign and liked his CSS Mosaic idea very much. Aside of this I was a bit frustrated at seeing the very thing I've been thinking about recently. It is my inner weariness of those fixed-width boxed CSS-layouts. Both centered and left-aligned.
I've been experiencing this rectangled-layout boredom for quite a time already and it even happened to influence my current CSS-projects. I noticed the tendency to try and “break on thru to the other side” (of the box) in my recent draft development in Photoshop.
Liquid and roomy layouts with a considerable amount of whitespace is what I'm eager to develop at the moment. Easier said than done, though. Especially as far as liquid layouts are concerned. You'll have to foresee so many variations of your design when trying to create something really liquid, pretty and usable at the same time.
Ok. If I'm lucky enough to obtain the above mentioned harmony in my current work I'll sure publish the pieces here.
Meanwhile the site is being reformed at the moment (it slowly moves towards the real bilinguality). Please bear that in mind if you run into inconsistencies in its textual content and navigation elements.

This space goes bilingual? The whys and whens of the idea…
